The application of HKUST volumetric measurement method in dynamic triaxial

Abstract: Dynamic triaxial test is one of important testing methods to obtain dynamic shear strength, modulus and damping ratio of soil. Volume change of a soil specimen is often difficult to be measured in a triaxial test accurately. But the This article summarizes some common methods of volume change measurement and analyses, their advantages and disadvantages of in dynamic tests. Combining with some unique features of GDS dynamic triaxial test equipment, a novel way of using HKUST’s total volume measuring device wall device is presented. In this novel method, inner cell is used to measure the volume change of soil specimen during a dynamic test by improving the sample base. The accuracy and applicability of this new method is verified and illustrated by carrying out tests on clay samples. The test results reveal that this novel method is feasible in dynamic triaxial test. This method is not able to pull test, and the influence of vibration on total volume measurement is also needs further research.
